This 2,186 square foot, three bedroom, two bath Contemporary home is located on beautifully wooded 1/2 acre lot in the Town of Webster, New York.
As you pull into the driveway you'll immediately notice the Contemporary design. What's interesting is the design feels familiar even though their configuration is not traditional. The roof line sweeps dramatically upward like a mid-twentieth century Cape Cod style home. The peak line of the roof, however, is staggered giving the facade a very different look from a Cape. The back portion of the roof has a gentle slope allowing for more space on the second floor much like a eighteenth century "saltbox" design. Like a saltbox style home the full size of the second floor is only revealed when you walk around to the side of the house. Yet, it's clearly NOT a saltbox. Like all good design this home reflects the past as well as looks to the future.
Let's go inside...
Heading to the front door you'll pass by a nice angled-bay window. Take one step up onto a welcoming covered porch. The front door is recessed somewhat so there's room for a small group to wait out of the elements.
Then step into a vestibule with a ceramic tile floor that shoots up - atrium style - to an exposed stairway and the second floor hallway. The stair railings, thresholds and closet door are all natural wood. A skylight pulls in sunlight. Walk straight ahead into the Great Room from the vestibule.
The Great Room is a combination Living Room and Family Room. A vaulted ceiling runs from the second floor down towards the back of the house leading your eye right to a glass door that, in turn, takes you to the deck and yard. TWO skylights fill this room with natural light all day long.
Directly off the Great Room - through an open threshold - is a large Dining Room. Four large windows throw beautiful light onto exposed natural maple flooring. The view from the Dining Room table out to the back yard is delicious!
The Kitchen is quite large. There are tons of cabinets, acres of counter space and a number of notable bonus features. For example, near the bay window there's a terrific desk area that's perfect for containing mail until you're ready to look at it. In the center of the room, right in front of that wonderful angled bay window, is a new island workstation with a prep sink that doubles as a service bar when you're entertaining and a breakfast bar for everyday life!
Just down the hall from the Kitchen - and behind the Great Room - is a cleverly designed Master suite with a full bathroom that's split into separate areas. One portion is accessible from the hallway as a powder room while the other may be sealed off by a door when guests are in the house. Brilliant!!
The first floor Master bedroom is wonderful! The room itself is both nice AND big with lots of windows. The closet is also great as is the master bathroom area.
You will absolutely LOVE the second floor, too. Normally, you probably wouldn't much care about the upstairs hallway. In this house the hallway on the second floor is perfectly charming! First off, the banister is open to the first floor then there's the skylight and then the new carpet and beautiful natural wood trimmings! It's really sweet!
The bedrooms upstairs are big. A large full bathroom is situated between the two rooms. Like the downstairs bathroom it's split. There are several distinct parts so that the occupants of each bedroom can have access to some sections when the other areas are being used. The views of the back yard from these two bedrooms are really great.
A large portion of the basement is informally finished and may be used as BONUS space for recreation, exercise, home-office or just a nice, clean play space.
This home is a joy from top to bottom! You will absolutely love the open, airy feeling!
