Bring your imagination &. create exactly what you want! The house at 375 Bonnie Brae Avenue in the Meadowbrook Neighborhood was built in 1933 by the Kodak Employees' Realty Company (KERC) for Anthony J and Janet L Betten. It is a good and well intact example of the high-quality design typical of the homes built in Meadowbrook during the late 1920's and early 1930's. The home shares may hallmarks of the Meadowbrook design vocabulary including the varied use of natural materials, cottage-like proportions and revival styled exterior namely Tudor Revival. Anthony "Tony" J Betten was a life long Rochesterian and 1924 graduate of the University of Rochester. He taught high school physics at East high School in the 1920's and at the new Franklin High School from its opening in the 1930's into the 1960's. Anthony married Janet Louise Bastes in June of 1933 just weeks after purchasing their home to be on Bonnie Brae Avenue. Janet was a graduate of George Washington University was an elementary school teacher at several Rochester area schools including the Harley School Tony and Janet had one daughter Barbara, born in 1938. The Bettens remained in their home until selling in 1961 to James Hoyle a faculty member at the Eastman School of Music. The current owners followed the Hoyle family a few years later. Meadowbrook was the final and most elaborate of the neighborhoods built by KERC. Ninety eight acres of former farmland was purchased from the Buckland Estate in late 1926, however construction on the first homes was not until two years later. Seeking to build a distinguished neighborhood, KERC set about studying several successful and revered developments across the country and incorporated their best elements into a master plan for the neighborhood. The neighborhood streets and housing lots were professionally landscaped and featured harp style street lamps and distinctive street markers. All homes were individually designed by nationally revered architects (whose names were frustratingly kept secret) hired directly by KERC and incorporated multiple exterior materials from a set palette, a similar overall scale, common design features and windows. This allowed the homes to be customized while keeping down cost and produced a diverse but harmonious streetscape,
