12 Glen Ellyn Way, Rochester, NY, 14618

This storied English Tudor revival home, located in the Town of Brighton, was built in 1936 for Charles & Mary West by architect, Leon L. Christ. West was a successful automotive entrepreneur with business interests stretching across the region. After a number of years the Wests pass the home to their daughter and her husband, Lucille & John Thompson. John Thompson was a painter & lifelong bricklayer. Two of Thompson's paintings were featured in the 1947 Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery. He was also a founding member of MCC. The third owners lived at this home from 1949 until 1967. 12 Glen Ellyn Way has not been offered to the market since 1967. This home measures over 2,500 square feet and offers ten rooms on just the first & second floors. There are a total of two full baths and three half baths as well as four fireplaces. The attic is unfinished. The basement is partially finished with an original fireplace and working half bathroom but not included in the square footage. The first floor features an impressive vestibule as well as a grand foyer. You'll find all the usual rooms downstairs plus a lovely natural wood paneled den with built-in shelves and a fireplace. A sunlit breakfast room is located off of a large, open, updated kitchen with plenty of cabinets and long counters. You can step from the living Room into a primarily south facing screened summer porch. The dining room has an original swinging door to the kitchen. A powder room is tucked off of the main hallway and near the door to the attached two car garage. Diamond shaped, gem colored stained glass windows and exposed half oak timbers adorn a remarkable stairway to the second floor. There are either 4 or 5 bedrooms depending on how you'd like to use the available rooms. The Thompsons added a second floor artist's studio in the late 1940s that includes a fireplace, half bath. north-facing skylight and a separate staircase down to the first floor. The master bedroom has a private full bathroom. SPECIAL NOTES: This home is an "exclusive listing" and will only be found in certain selected online real estate databases.
