Granot Loma is a world class estate located on the shores of Lake Superior. The lodge & other buildings were hand-crafted by over 400 craftsmen during the early 1920's in the tradition of the Great Adirondack Lodges to not only rival, but exceed any lodge of its era. Built by the financier Louis G. Kaufman, the Oregon Pine was brought in rail cars to its final resting spot on a peninsula, jutting out into Lake Superior with views of the lake on three sides. The lodge offers the ultimate view of the Northern Lights, full-moons, & sun-danced waters as far as you can see, not to mention the breathtaking storms that roll in off Gitche Gumee! The lodge, to this day, is possibly the largest hand-crafted log cabin in the nation & consists of 26,000 square feet. All this is set upon a steel frame & 6' foundation walls protecting it from wrath of the Great Lake. The 60-foot long great room features a massive stone fireplace (hand selected out of Lake Superior by Mrs. Kaufman) with an 18-foot mantle taken from a sunken ship below the waters of the lake. The lodge has an additional 25 fireplaces, 23 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, & a huge, industrial, gourmet kitchen that is modeled after the White House kitchen. A solarium breakfast nook just off the kitchen sits inches from the waves pounding against your seat. A game room where Gershwin played the Steinway Grand, card room, media room, & workout room! 50 rooms total! The lodge also includes a 3,000-gallon hot-tub nestled above the harbor. The private harbor will protect any boat you have or use the indoor boathouse! Granot Loma Lodge is listed in the Register of Historic Places & the original cost of construction exceeded $5,000,000.00 at its completion in 1923. On the way to the lodge, you will pass the farm. This includes 13 buildings situated on a hillside with mountain views, fields, orchards, two homes, & a massive dairy barn decorated with a huge Tiffany clock. Vintage farm implements adorn the yard & drive. THE LAND, LAKE AND RIVERS: The 415 acres offer a variety of Northern Hardwoods, adorned with food plots, trails, & fruit trees offering excellent hunting or wildlife viewing opportunities. Over 5,000' of sandy Lake Superior shore line frontage offer excellent sporting opportunities including World Class Fishing on Superior or river fishing on the Big & Little Garlic rivers that run through the property until resting in Lake Superior. Sailing, jet skiing, & of course swimming during the summer months! not to mention some of the best snowmobile trails in the mid-west. This estate offers every possible sporting opportunity you could imagine! You want more seclusion? Hike up Garlic Mountain for a view of the lake (which is also the location of your windmill that provides all the power to Granot Loma) or take the kayak out to your own private island & spend the day. You cannot describe all this property has to offer or the exquisite old style craftsmanship with-out viewing it for yourself!
