Description of Property at
1155 N River Blvd
One of the few remaining historical turn of the century mansions in Wichita, Kansas, Campbell Castle was designed and built by well-known architect Alfred Gould of Boston in 1886. The 10,457 SF Castle and nearby 3,000 SF Carriage House on 2 acres have a total of 17 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms and 3 half baths. The first floor of the Castle includes a formal foyer, turret room, formal dining room, sitting room, library, breakfast room, solarium and commercial kitchen equipped with a Wolf 12 burner, double gas oven commercial stove, 2 double commercial refrigerators and 1 double commercial freezer along with an adjoining butler pantry. The floors in the Castle are mainly inlaid parquet with different designs in each room created from various hardwoods; antique stained glass windows from Germany adorn the entrance foyer along with a 680 year old Grecian fireplace and a 280 year old staircase imported from London. The roofs on the Castle and Carriage House are constructed from hand cut Vermont slate and native limestone stone was used for the outside walls. The Castle roof can be accessed by traversing stairways through 2 turret rooms, both would lend themselves to cozy sitting areas with lovely views through their windows. A Kansas cattle baron had the Castle built in 1886 to model a Richardsonian Romanesque Scottish Castle. In 1973 the building was entered on the United States National Register of Historic Places as a building of architectural significance. Six of the 17 bedrooms have Jacuzzis, twelve of the bedrooms have antique fireplaces. The Castle has been used as a private residence, B&B and wedding venue, however, the property would lend itself to a magnificent corporate headquarters, office complex, spa, or restaurant. www.Historic Campbell Castle.com
